The quarter wears on.

I cant really tell if this quarter is going by fast or drudging along slow. The forestry class I have neglected to a degree and bio is more difficult than I originally anticipated, and Art history....well...art history is art history. Thats all I can say about that.

In the bio class the curriculum is much different than I originally thought it would be. The lectures consist of Professor Richard Olmstead going through two or three families giving us a list of characteristics that we are to memorize. This is complimented with a dash of phylogenetic history that to me is somewhat useless for the reason of its still such a new science that the rules we are given are literally being changed and re-written on a daily bases.

I took this photo on the camping trip I just returned from. Its a pretty good picture I think so just wanted to post it. Reminds me of sea foam. Which leads to the little mermaid and how she eventually turned to sea foam and just bubbled away. That could be a mermaid! Just keep that in mind. Until next time!

Back from the Wilderness

Back from the wilderness indeed. Took a camping trip this weekend for an environmental class. A great experience i must say. We drove down to the olympic peninsula and hiked along the south fork of the Hoh river. This class is really opening my eyes the the wide range of plants here in the Pacific Northwest and the ridiculous amount of diversity. This is really opening up my eyes to the immense potential that these type of trips might have on my design ideas in the future. This class combined with my plant identification class is great. Some things that I am MORE interested in learning is the living compatible environments for many of these plants that we're learning about. I think that these will help me even more to implement plants that will actually live in my designs rather than just dying. How unfortunate would that be? Quite.

In other notes I think that I am going to start working on my application for the University of Washington's Architecture Program. Yes, the second time. My thinking in this decision is that since i am already accepted into landscape, and I have very much improved my graphic skills as well as organizational skills in the last year I might as well try to widen my options. The advantages of architecture? You attain a bachelors of arts in architecture in a total of two additional years as opposed to the 3 years required for a bachelor of landscape. The disadvantage is that the landscape degree seems to be much more prestigious and is defined as a "professional degree" . But we shall see! Until next time!

Well I'm in the program, in to plant ID Biology class, into a forestry class and into art history? Its a lazy quarter but at the same time I'm realizing that I have greatly fallen out of the habit of dealing with long reading assignments as opposed to studio projects. ( yes I miss studio already). Starting studios again in the fall though! This weekend Im taking a trip into the Olympic mountains with my forestry class to which I will post pictures diligently after I return. This should be somewhat fun.

Spring Break

Well Im in California right now and its warm. The weather is nice and balmy? Right now I have a small kid asking me how to play an xbox. Life is good. Anyways. When I get back to Seattle the big question will be answered in a letter now sitting in my mail box. Did I make it into the landscape architecture program? It would be awesome if I did and I feel like I have a real shot. *crosses fingers*. Heres the situation.

Lazy Quarter

Welll here's some of the stuff thats been up. This quarter time has mostly been focused on a retake of a class that I didnt do so well in last year. Its and architecture studio and the one thing that I keep having repeat to me is that this is all much easier the second time around. That fact has led me to try a fraction of the amount that I did in the previous year which has been a nice break. Heres a couple of the things that I'm dilly dallying around with.

This project dealt with going to a building on campus and documenting some of the features that we thought defined the building. I decided on materials as the element that defined space and linked spaces. Fun stuff. Must admit. Definitely not 100 percent going into this but it is what it is.
