Break, oh break, long break.

Its that special time of year here at UW, summer break. Kind of. Its the period we have in between summer quarter ending and the next year's fall begins. This yea SEEMS abnormally long with a big 38 day break. Pretty cool. So far have done absolutely nothing in terms of productiveness but is I guess that could be what break is for. Haven't posted on here in a ridiculous amount of time but now I shall break that with this amazing post!. OK. One thing I have been working on is designing a natural pond area for a family member's yard. I have the basic concepts drawn out and have been working out a good portion of the technical kinks but still alot of work to be done. Assuming we get this thing built in the next year it could be a great thing to put on a future resume'?
Perhaps. Its fun none the less. Will post pics as soon as I have something worth showing that everybody wont laugh at. Until next time, enjoy break! Real Estate Web Site Hosting

Vegetation Representations

Its been a while since my last post, and I must confess, that mostly is a result of pure laziness. I've been enjoying the summer to a degree of going all out on my ceramics class and watching every single Harry Potter movie. Lots of fun but not that much free time. Should I have told you that? Anyways onto the reason for this post that's been in the works for a while now.

A WORLD OUT OF AUTO-FOCUS

autofocus
To get things started. We're on a small summer break. Just got done with finals last week and they grades are NOT IN YET. Fortunately? Not feeling extremely confident in any of them. The one exception was Plant Biology. Turned out okay. The class is curved to a 2.7 and I ended up with a 3.0. Not bad I suppose.

In other news.

FINALS: Plant Biology, Art History, and Forestry! OH MY!

Bad Wizard of Oz reference? Probably. Its finals week here at UW and its just beginning to get fun. Haven't had to pull an all-nighter in a while since I've been out of studios but this week may call for a break in the streak. The one thing I'm wondering through all of this is: What in the world was I thinking when I signed up for art history? Big mistake. Oh well. Summer Quarter has the hopes of being something better. Right now I am signed up for a ceramic throwing class (just for fun) and a sustainable market finance stuff required for the B-LArch. (Bachelors of Landscape Architecture for those of you who don't know). Also planning to sign up for a week long trip out to the Elwah River area to get some first hand experience on dam removal effects on the ecosystem.Promises of excitement. Until then, wish me luck on these finals! Real Estate Web Site Hosting

RESTRICTED

This weekend went on another one of those required field trips. It wasn't so bad but as near as fun as the first one. I blame this on the lack of ocean experiences on the latter excursion. We essentially tromped through a series of old growth forests in a range from douglas fir/ cedar old growth to some dry ponderosa pine old growth. Fun stuff.

The quarter wears on.

I cant really tell if this quarter is going by fast or drudging along slow. The forestry class I have neglected to a degree and bio is more difficult than I originally anticipated, and Art history....well...art history is art history. Thats all I can say about that.

In the bio class the curriculum is much different than I originally thought it would be. The lectures consist of Professor Richard Olmstead going through two or three families giving us a list of characteristics that we are to memorize. This is complimented with a dash of phylogenetic history that to me is somewhat useless for the reason of its still such a new science that the rules we are given are literally being changed and re-written on a daily bases.

A photo I actually enjoy

I took this photo on the camping trip I just returned from. Its a pretty good picture I think so just wanted to post it. Reminds me of sea foam. Which leads to the little mermaid and how she eventually turned to sea foam and just bubbled away. That could be a mermaid! Just keep that in mind. Until next time!

Back from the Wilderness

Back from the wilderness indeed. Took a camping trip this weekend for an environmental class. A great experience i must say. We drove down to the olympic peninsula and hiked along the south fork of the Hoh river. This class is really opening my eyes the the wide range of plants here in the Pacific Northwest and the ridiculous amount of diversity. This is really opening up my eyes to the immense potential that these type of trips might have on my design ideas in the future. This class combined with my plant identification class is great. Some things that I am MORE interested in learning is the living compatible environments for many of these plants that we're learning about. I think that these will help me even more to implement plants that will actually live in my designs rather than just dying. How unfortunate would that be? Quite.

In other notes I think that I am going to start working on my application for the University of Washington's Architecture Program. Yes, the second time. My thinking in this decision is that since i am already accepted into landscape, and I have very much improved my graphic skills as well as organizational skills in the last year I might as well try to widen my options. The advantages of architecture? You attain a bachelors of arts in architecture in a total of two additional years as opposed to the 3 years required for a bachelor of landscape. The disadvantage is that the landscape degree seems to be much more prestigious and is defined as a "professional degree" . But we shall see! Until next time!

IN

Well I'm in the program, in to plant ID Biology class, into a forestry class and into art history? Its a lazy quarter but at the same time I'm realizing that I have greatly fallen out of the habit of dealing with long reading assignments as opposed to studio projects. ( yes I miss studio already). Starting studios again in the fall though! This weekend Im taking a trip into the Olympic mountains with my forestry class to which I will post pictures diligently after I return. This should be somewhat fun. Real Estate Web Site Hosting

Spring Break

Well Im in California right now and its warm. The weather is nice and balmy? Right now I have a small kid asking me how to play an xbox. Life is good. Anyways. When I get back to Seattle the big question will be answered in a letter now sitting in my mail box. Did I make it into the landscape architecture program? It would be awesome if I did and I feel like I have a real shot. *crosses fingers*. Heres the situation. Real Estate Web Site Hosting

Lazy Quarter

Welll here's some of the stuff thats been up. This quarter time has mostly been focused on a retake of a class that I didnt do so well in last year. Its and architecture studio and the one thing that I keep having repeat to me is that this is all much easier the second time around. That fact has led me to try a fraction of the amount that I did in the previous year which has been a nice break. Heres a couple of the things that I'm dilly dallying around with.

This project dealt with going to a building on campus and documenting some of the features that we thought defined the building. I decided on materials as the element that defined space and linked spaces. Fun stuff. Must admit. Definitely not 100 percent going into this but it is what it is.

Portfolio In

Well yesterday I submitted my application and portfolio to the Landscape Architecture Department here at UW. I think I have a decent chance but the acceptance rate is 50%. Will I make the cut? Cant say yet. But we shall see come around March 30th. Real Estate Web Site Hosting

A trend of decreasing frequency

As the fall quarter drags on I have much to post but little time. Right now in an under grad drawing studio and a environmental geo class. Here is the Presentation I just completed about 15 minutes ago. Still a little work to do on the original drawings but the digital portion is done. Easy stuff. No concept thinking for the most part. OOOOOK JK cant upload images for some reason. Later it is once again. More to come later.Real Estate Web Site Hosting
